Corn on the cob explodes–why?
Ok, so I’m sitting on my couch watching a movie when all of a sudden there’s an explosion from the back of the house that rattles my windows. I run to the back only to find the neighbors back there were grilling hamburgers, etc. There was all kinds of smoke and their BBQ grill was knocked over. I go outside to make sure everyone was ok and the main person who was supposed to be monitoring things said that his corn on the cob exploded. He kicked it and I could see it was wrapped up in aluminum foil and was smoking.
I have never heard of such a thing. Yes, I know about popcorn but not a whole ear of corn exploding to the point it rattled windows. Neighbors down the street even came out of their homes. What caused this?
I don’t think anyone was out there watching the grill to actually lose an eye, but the grill looked like it flew a couple of feet! ha
LOL…I have tears in my eyes at this whole visual!! I wish I were there to witness this one!
Anyhow…I would assume they did not “soak” the corn in water prior to putting it on the grill. If you don’t soak them first the only liquid they cook on is their own…and wrapped up like that…bound to cause pressure…but holy crow….either the corn was huge or the grill was tiny. Did anyone lose an eye? I hope not!
